6 Effective Writing Skills
Writing skills- ability to put thoughts into words
- helps learner gain:
- independence - comprehensibility - fluency - creativity
1. Resonant Characters- it is the most important tool of effective writing skills
- use lead characters as nouns familiar to your readers let those characters
tell the story woven throughout your writing.
Examples:
Wrong- Professional advancement is achieve through hardwork.

2. Action Verbs- use strong,active visual verbs to propel your writing and readers along.
Examples:
Wrong- The memo is written well.
Right- The manager crafted the memo with resonant characters and strong verbs.
3. The 8 word test- keep your noun and verb within 8 words of each other.
4. Link Sentences and phrases with explicit connectors
- using this explicit connector it could clear the flow throughout the thoughts of the document.
Explicit- clearly and openly stated or defined
Examples:
a.therefore, thus- to convey result b. however,still, yet- to show exception or contrast
Wrong- The manager didn't treat the workers well.Workers were poorly motivated and often quit.
Right- The manager mistreated the workers.Because of that the workers suffered from poor motivation and often quit.
As you can see explicit connectors help the sentence more clear and understandable.
5. From Old to New
- establish common ground in your message development , leading your readers from comfortable familiar territory to the new.
6. Problem- Solution- Action
- Frame the problem - Pose a Solution - Call action

Example:
WRONG: Shayne, who is responsible for taking good care of my paralytic grandmother, is migrating with her family to Canada.
RIGHT: Shayne, my grandmother's caregiver is migrating with her family to Canada.
4. Link Sentences & Phrases with Explicit Connectors
--- In writing, explicit connectors should be use in order to connect two sentences that has connecting thought to have a clear flow throughout the document.
Example:
WRONG: Ann studied her lessons very well. She passed the exam.
RIGHT: Ann studied her lessons very well. Because of that she passed the exam.

2. Action Verbs
ReplyDelete---For us to write sentences will we have to follow the six writing skill and one of this is Action verb which means that we have to use strong,active verbs which is common to everybody to propel your writing and readers along.
ex.
wrong:They were will pleased by the performance.
right:The audience enjoyed will by the artist performances.
3. The 8-word test
----means that noun and verb are not too far from each other, that their will be 8 words or less in between noun and verb.
ex.
wrong:The teacher of first year section-1 who is in-charge for the stage decoration came to school late.
right:The teacher responsible for stage decoration came to school late.

ReplyDelete- it is used in order to make a complete sentence which is more understandable to the readers.
example:
( wrong )
The employee works effectively. He got a promotion.
( right )
The employee works effectively because of that he got a promotion.
* RESONANT CHARACTER

ReplyDelete- for us to have a correct sentence we have to use the skills in writing and on of this is Action verb a type of verbs carry a great deal of information in a sentence and can convey emotion and a sense of purpose that extends beyond the literal meanings of the word.
EXAMPLE:
WRONG: She was play outside with Allen.
RIGHT: She was playing outside with Allen.
2. Link sentence and phrases with explicit connection
-are used to express relationships between ideas and to combine sentences.
EXAMLE:
WRONG: He didn't go to work. He was sick.
RIGHT: He didn't go to work because he was sick.

ReplyDelete2. Action Verbs-are verbs that show the performance of an action. They are dynamic verbs that show something happening. we must use it in a right way..
Examples:
Wrong-I have my lunch now.
Right-I eat my launch now.
4.Link sentence and phrases with explicit connection
-The relationship between sentences is the link that conceptually ties one sentence to another sentence. The relationship may be explicit, in which case a transition or clue word helps identify the connection.
Examples:
Wrong-My sister became a vegetarian.She doesn’t want to eat anything that had a mother
Right-My sister became a vegetarian because she doesn’t want to eat anything that had a mother

Example:
wrong: The Professor responsible for the daily record of the teacher for us to know the attendance is submitted.
right: Our school professor called the daily record to be submitted.
6.Problem- Solution- Action
example:
problem: the MNCHS school decreased population of student.
Solution: The MNCHS school planned to hire a good teachers.
Action: The MNCHS school.
- If we have problem that we in-counter we should be patience so that avoid arguing to other people.You must think for the solution best.
-Do not make the noun and verb away within 8 words of each other because it might be wrong.

e. g.:
wrong-The students of an old school were terrified of a ghost story. They drop from the school.
right-The students of an old school were terrified of a ghost story because of that they drop from the school.
The action verb used to show when somebody does something and main be used alone as the main verb of the sentence.Action verb are time-telling verbs. They also tell when something takes place and can be actions you can't see. Ex. The fire started in the basement in a pile of rags.
